Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame Nomination Form

Purpose: The Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame was created to recognize outstanding achievements of athletes, coaches, teams, and contributors who have brought significant recognition to themselves and Cabarrus County through sport. The association was founded by Mr. Tony McClamrock and is governed by the Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame Committee.


Mission: The mission of the Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame is to publicly honor and recognize individuals (living or deceased) and championship teams for their accomplishments and contributions through sport, and the resultant recognition and benefit to Cabarrus County, so that their legacies will live and continue.


Nominations: Applications for nomination and other supporting documents must be submitted to and received by the Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame Committee. All committee members will have access to the application and all other supporting documentation provided for their review.


Eligibility: Individuals may be nominated in one or more of the following three categories:


•Athletes who have distinguished themselves in sport. Their participation may have occurred while a student at a Cabarrus County high school, while a student at a college or university, or while participating in other organized competitive sport at the amateur or professional level. Athletes to be considered for induction should be at least 30 years of age. Excellence should be judged on the awards and accomplishments of the athlete. Their accomplishments will have brought special beneficial recognition to themselves and Cabarrus County.


•Coaches/Managers with at least five years of service at a Cabarrus County high school, at a college or university, or other organized competitive sport at the amateur or professional level. Excellence should be based on coaching accomplishments, recognition, and awards. Youth level coaches, in particular, should also be judged on the positive influence and guidance given to young athletes during their tenure. Their accomplishments will have brought special beneficial recognition to themselves and Cabarrus County.


•Contributors to sports whose actions have greatly aided or influenced athletics in a significant and meaningful manner. Their contributions will have brought special beneficial recognition to themselves and Cabarrus County.

Nomination Process: Unlimited nominations of either living or deceased individuals will be accepted each year, with nominees not selected for induction in the first year of their respective nomination being carried over for consideration in succeeding years. Candidates for nomination must be of good character and reputation. An individual or team must be nominated by written or electronic application, accompanied by letters of recommendation and/or documentation of accomplishments. Candidates will be judged on their merits based on factual information. It is the responsibility of the individual(s) submitting the application to ensure all information is accurate. Nominations will be due by June 30th of each year. Applications received after this date will be considered received the following year.


Selection Committee: The Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame Committee will serve as the selection committee. It will consist of at least eight (8) members and will not exceed fifteen (15) members, including the chairperson. The Committee will strive to reflect the diversity of the different areas of Cabarrus County and will include one or more previously inducted Hall of Fame member(s) when reasonably possible. Committee members are responsible for diligently reviewing all materials submitted for each nominee.


Selection Process: The Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame Committee will annually select new members for induction. Inductees must receive at least a seventy-five percent (75%) majority vote of the Committee members present at the time of voting with at least seventy percent (75%) of the Committee members present for the vote. Individuals selected for induction will be notified by the Chairman.

Please Note: This Committee of Cabarrus County friends and former athletes have come together to form the Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame. We are working as a separate entity and without the endorsement and assistance of Cabarrus County or the Board of Education. We are hopeful the Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame will benefit our county, and also recognize the outstanding former athletes, coaches, and contributors which our county has produced over the years.
